First Few Days
Initial Visit: My experience observing my teacher at Estacado High School in Lubbock, Texas was an amazing experience. I really enjoyed meeting the teacher, principal, and other teachers. I ended up meeting the principal at the same time that I was meeting my cooperating teacher. The principal seemed really happy to have me at his school, and he also hinted at that he likes to hire his student teachers back for a job when the opportunity arises. My cooperating teacher seems like a really fun, and enthusiastic teacher. He told me that after a few weeks of observing that I would basically be taking over all of his classes, except for his Advance Placement courses. He also told me that the periods that I will be teaching will be 1950’s-1980. It was a really great experience for me to meet my teacher, and got to know the school. Now all I have to do is wait for the first week in January, when I will be back.
First Day: The first day I went to the school was great because I was able to meet all of the other teachers because it was a teacher’s day to prepare for the next day. I was able to get to know my cooperating teacher better, and able to get all the things I needed for school. I was able to get my parking pass, school safety drills procedures, and codes to copy machines. This day to prepare for the first day was very essential to me being a successful student teacher.
Second Day: My second day was the first time I was able to meet all of the students. I had to introduce myself to the classes. Introducing myself to everyone had me a little nervous, but for the most part the classes remand quite, and some students even asked me some questions about where I was from, and how I liked going to school and living in New Mexico. The second day back my cooperating teacher did not do as most teachers would do; which was reinstate their rules, but he rather had a lesson ready to teach. As I watched my cooperating teacher teach I noticed that the students really enjoyed watching him teach, and they answered his questions and they were learning. I really thought this was great because I expected students to be too crazy to want to learn, but they already knew the seriousness of my cooperating teacher and were ready to learn.
Third Day: Although the first day of school was so successful the second day of school was just as good, if not better. Many more students showed up, and they were also curious and ready to learn. I again enjoyed watching them learn. My cooperating teacher showed so much enthusiasm as he taught and it was really great to watch him teach, it gave me a background on how I should teach when it was my turn because I needed to make sure that the students saw a similar transition rather than a completely different style of teaching.
