Bellringer: Describe one of these groups, people, or events of the 1980’s. (Word bank included)

Standards: US 10E: Describe the causes and key organizations and individuals of the conservative resurgence of the 1980’s and 1990’s, including Phyllis Schalfy, the Contract with America, the Heritage Foundation, the Moral Majority, and the National Rifle Association.

Big Idea: Neo-Conservatism Notes and Reagan’s inauguration speech.

Activity: Students will be handed a worksheet that has; fill in the blank notes, the five W’s, an analysis for political cartoons, and four choice answers. The students will pay attention to the instructor giving the notes, and the instructor will ask questions to students about the different topics, using the Popsicle sticks. After all notes have been given students will then on a piece of paper answer the question; “Why would you have or have not been a conservative?” Students have to use at least three examples from the notes.

Tuesday

Bellringer: Describe one of these neo-conservative groups, people, or events, and how they changed America.

Standards: US 18A: Discuss the role of American entrepreneurs such as Bill gates, Sam Walton, Estee Lauder, Robert Johnson, Lionel Sosa, and millions of small business entrepreneurs who achieved the American Dream.

Big Idea: Gallery Walk

Activity: Students will be given information on a certain American entrepreneur and then will be tasked with creating a poster about them, and their business they created. The students will then have to present their entrepreneur to the rest of the class. Students listening to the presentation will have to right down the information the other students are telling them. At the end of the gallery walk students have to rank the entrepreneurs, and then using who those selected 1st they have to explain why they picked them and what makes them have such an impact on society today.

Wednesday

Bellringer: Describe and explain whom one of these entrepreneurs are, and what impact have they had on the United States/World.

Standards: US 8D- US 30A

Big Idea: Presidential Timeline

Activity: Students will be given pictures of presidents; LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan and have to put them in order from who was elected to first. Students will be then given cards with each of the president’s 4 domestic/foreign policies. They will then have to place what they think goes to which president. After that is completed students then get cards with information describing each domestic/foreign policy, and have to place them on the correct corresponding card. After students have completed that, they will right down just the policies of the president. And the final step students have to right which president had the most impact on the world and why using at least three of their foreign/domestic policies.

Bellringer: Which one of these presidents had the most impact on the United States and why.

Standards: US 2A- US 30A

Big Idea: Dateline America

Activity: Students will be given a reading and writing packet that contains ALL the information from the 1970’s-1990’s. Students will have to answer the various questions outlined in the packet.
